From their initial inception
in early 2001, Brooklyn's Coastal Drag has worked to redefine a guitar-pop
sensibility that sheds the retro-stereotype of today's New York renaissance.
Drawing on a DIY ethic of self-taught instrumentation, Coastal Drag
challenge listeners to alter preconceived notions about genrefication,
raucous guitars and, of course, palm trees.
Their self-produced debut EP, Caught
On The Wrist exemplifies a raw vigor unfamiliar, yet refreshing
to those immersed in production, tweaking and over-amplification.
Mixing an energy of The Stooges, a lo-fi sparseness bearing of early
Pavement, Caught On The Wrist lyrically poses the "what
if?" scenario that we face each and every day-and often times
forget. Eschewing an air of pretentiousness, Tyler Dickson's vocals
juxtapose the listener between a passionate storm of pleading for
lost moments, future opportunities and the anxiety that comes between.
After a brief hiatus in
the winter of 2004, they band is back in the studio to record tracks
for their debut LP. Check back for more details!
